Grammarly’s Apps…Google Chrome Web Store Grammarly…
I set up the Grammarly desktop app on my Windows 10 machine and had no issues checking in to my account. The app looks fantastic and the layout is highly practical; I particularly like the side panel’s minimalist icons and dark accents. Users can choose between composing text directly in an editor and importing an existing document.
If you just paste and copy text from a Word document into the Grammarly app, Grammarly states it just keeps vibrant and italic format, headers, links, and lists. In testing, I discovered that it also kept underlined text. If you want to keep the full format of the text (consisting of paragraph spacing), use the import tool to include the file. You won’t see any formatted text while you work in the Grammarly editor, but the file retains all of the original formatting whenever you export it.
Because the editor now luckily includes format tools such as for bold, italics, underlines, headings, links, and lists (both bulleted and numbered), you could just write straight in the Grammarly app. It’s most likely much easier to keep composing in Word or Google Docs and use the dedicated Grammarly tools for those platforms. Within a file, the best side of the window houses tabs for spelling and grammar mistakes, premium writing checks, a plagiarism checker, a human proofreader option, and a total composing score based on these factors. As mentioned earlier, the writing score is helpful for getting a quick check of your composing development and how much revising you have left.
Two other features readily available are Goals and Performance. Objectives launches whenever you import a new document; it assists Grammarly adjust its edits based upon the context of your writing. You can specify your intent (notify, explain, persuade, tell a story), feeling, audience, and style. Premium users can choose between various writing domains, including Academic, Service, and Creative. The Performance popup shows you general data such as word count and reading time, in addition to vocabulary and readability metrics. These metrics are calculated based upon contrast with other Grammarly users and the Readability rating is based upon the Flesch reading-ease test. Both additions make Grammarly more useful at a higher level than that of simple mistake checking.
Nevertheless, I still use Grammarly regularly to check whatever I publish on this blog. I have a respectable grasp on grammar and English guidelines already, but it’s surprising how typos and little mistakes can creep into anyone’s writing.
